Documenting, mapping and interpreting biodiversity
My research themes are biogeography, biodiversity, and conservation.
What are the unique aspects and components of global and Neotropical faunas and biological assemblages? How are richness and endemism distributed across the globe? How many natural biogeographical units can we detect in the Neotropics? Why so many rare and local species, often poorly studied or undescribed? And how to conserve Neotropical biological uniqueness and relevance?
These questions remain without answers, but my research efforts will be rewarded if they inspire future biodiversity scientists and if they help to inform society on the relevance and beauty of vanishing natural environments.
Minha atividade científica está centrada nos temas de biodiversidade, biogeografia e conservação.
Quais são os aspectos e componentes únicos das faunas globais e Neotropicais? Como se distribuem riqueza e endemismo? Quantas unidades faunísticas naturais conseguimos detectar? Por que existem tantas espécies naturalmente raras e localizadas, incluindo muitas ainda não descritas? E como conservar esse patrimônio biológico e evolutivo único, nos Neotrópicos e no planeta?
Talvez estas perguntas nunca sejam respondidas adequadamente. Mas meus esforços de pesquisa estarão recompensados se servirem como inspiração a futuros cientistas da biodiversidade e se auxiliarem a sociedade a reconhecer e valorizar a beleza e importância vital dos ambientes naturais.
